THE AMERICAN DVD release for LGBT movie Pride has had all references to gay people removed from the cover.
Starring Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Irish actor Andrew Scott, Pride tells the story of a group of gay and lesbian activists who supported the British miners’ strike in the 1980s.
The film has just been released on DVD in the US, but some quite significant details are missing from the cover – namely, all references to homosexuality.
According to PinkNews, the DVD cover in the UK describes the main characters as a ‘London-based group of gay and lesbian activists’ while the US DVD reads ‘London-based activists’.
A sign reading ‘Lesbians & Gays support the miners’, which can be seen here on the UK DVD release, has also been Photoshopped out of the back cover.
People have been expressing their confusion and disappointment about the omissions on Twitter:
The US DVD was released by Sony Pictures, which has yet to comment on the issues with the cover.
